Depends on the classic. A 52 Plymouth sedan, E30 M3, 65 Impala, Model A, 240Z, etc will all do better in some places than others.

I was looking at the 240Z market the other day and it is hard to read, I realized I don’t really know what the hell is going on . I see some similar cars go for pretty different prices.

Not for an earlier car, isn’t his 80's/90's and more modern special interest?

Hagerty has an insured valuation. I forget if you have to have a policy first

I'd wildly guess BaT would be the best place to sell a nice 240Z.

I was leaning that way myself, if anything the buyers overpay there.

Well I haven’t been able to use them, I tried but with no enclosed garage they have rejected me twice. I’ve always looked at Hemmings and real car people look at that.

D efinitely. The place for trendy cars and buyers with bottomless bank accounts. To buy, maybe CL or marketplace or local estate sale ads where sellers might not be up to date with the market.

I bought my TT500 for $2k . Just found a BaT auction where a guy paid $7,100 fo r one almost the same weekend I bought my bike. The auction bike was almost identical to mine, except for my go fast bits. BaT buyers are nuts.

Well if things get really shit in a few months I may have to if these early Zs with original engines etc.. are worth that much. I don’t want to but I have a couple other classics I deal with.

If there's a popular forum for that car with a classified section, I'd go there

I know some others have already tossed this out, but I’d vote BaT. Buyers there seem to have way more money than sense.

Definitely the place to go with the right vehicle. If it has any appeal to monied late run boomers or midlife crisis Xers, the sky is the limit.

I am at the limit anyway, it’s a good car so I don’t want to sell it. My wife doesn’t really like it and the dog hates it, so it’s just for me and it can limit things. I thought about getting a classic sedan that was used in motorsport so I could combine the W123 and 240Z, then I could have something fun to drive but also something we could all go together in. I was thinking maybe an MK1 XJ6.. or maybe an older Mercedes. The Jaaaags often come with an engine swap so they would be cheap to fix and have power. Nothing is urgent yet but it I were to sell the Z I would want to do it while it’s hot and BaT seems to be selling them easily. This strange time we are living in gives me a lot of time to think about things and it drives me nuts!

I am glad I am limited in storage, so I don’t h ave much choice than to keep it limited to one old car, unless I want to pay more rent (which I don’t). Just about every week I find something I “wouldn’t mind having”, but storage can be as irritating as purchase (not to mention repairs), and the fintail has enough little needs to keep me going.
I think for nice original Zs, it is a seller’s market and will be for some time, as so many of them were neglected or modified. Unless stuff really hits the fan, you’re probably sitting on something good.

Yeah I rent a couple parking spaces, but I don’t pay rent for where we live so a couple hundred a month for that has never bothered me. I can’t street park the Z but I have with the W123 at times. The second space is actually for my truck but it isn’t done so I park the W123 there. Two old cars feels like less stress for me but I am attached to the Mercedes, it’s been in the family a long time and there are a lot of memories with it. It is on the original transmission too, it slips a bit from 2nd to 3rd. So it will need that $2400 rebuild at some point. I would like to get a bunch of work done on it, the door lock vacuum leaks and the two middle air vents are not switching over, that requires taking the whole dash off to fix so if you do that you should do whatever you can in there.... Always something!

Everyone is wrong - the best place to sell a classic is to a friend ;) Ideally at a discount.

Ideally, if I ever did it I would like it to go to someone I approve of.

I rent one as well, and even that irks me a bit, as it is a decent expense - storage on the fintail usually exceeds other costs several times over.
Imagine your 123 but with 20 years more age, that’s the fun I get to deal with :)
